The short version
- No account. You don't sign up, and we don't ask for your name or email.
- Your videos and shots stay on your phone. Ball tracking runs on the device, and we never upload your clips or shot history.
- The app sends a few anonymous usage counts to BowlBrain's own analytics service, and crash reports on builds where crash reporting is enabled. One switch turns off both.
- Lane auto-detect in the cloud sends one camera frame to Roboflow, a third-party service, and only if you choose it. Placing the corners by hand sends nothing.
- No ads, no advertising ID, and we never sell your data.
LaneLens ("the app", "we", "us") is a bowling ball-tracking and coaching app for Android, published by MunkinFactory as part of the BowlBrain suite. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
1. What stays on your phone
Everything you create in LaneLens is stored in the app's private storage on your device:
- Shot clips: the short videos the app records of each throw, kept so you can replay them. Clips are recorded without sound.
- Shot data: the tracked ball path, metrics such as entry board, angle, breakpoint and speed, your result tags, session history, drills and targets.
- Lane calibration and your settings (handedness, zoom, preferences, ball list).
- A local crash log, a short record of recent app steps and errors, which you can view under More › Diagnostics.
We can't see any of this. It leaves your phone only when you choose to send it (section 6).
2. Camera and photos
- Camera: used to film your throws so the ball can be tracked. Video is processed on the device.
- Photos/videos you pick: "Review a Clip" lets you choose a saved video from your phone to analyse. The app reads only the video you pick, and the analysis happens on the device.
- Microphone: LaneLens does not record audio and does not request microphone access.
3. Lane auto-detect your choice
To calibrate, the app needs the four corners of your lane. There are two ways to set them:
- By hand or on the device: you place the corners yourself, or let the on-device detector find them. Nothing is sent anywhere.
- Cloud auto-detect, only if you choose it: the app sends one still frame from the camera to Roboflow (roboflow.com), a third-party computer-vision service, which returns the outline of the lane. The frame shows whatever the camera sees at that moment, usually the lane and possibly people nearby. We don't send any identifier with it, and we don't keep the frame. Roboflow processes it under its own terms and privacy policy.
4. Anonymous usage stats you can switch it off
To learn which parts of LaneLens are useful, the app sends a few anonymous counts to BowlBrain's own analytics service (bowlbrain-analytics.vercel.app, operated by us). No third-party analytics company is involved. Each of these is sent at most once a day:
- that the app was opened, the platform and the app version;
- roughly how long ago the app was installed, as a range (for example "7–13 days");
- which screens and features were used (for example Auto, Replay, Coach, export);
- a rough count of the previous day's tracked shots, as a range (for example "10–29").
The counts include no name, no account, no advertising ID, no stored device identifier and nothing you recorded: no video, no shot paths, no scores. Development builds never send them. To turn them off: More › Your Profile › Share anonymous usage stats. Once it's off, nothing is sent.
5. Crash reports same switch
When LaneLens crashes or hits an error, it always keeps a short log on your phone (More › Diagnostics), so you can send it to us yourself. Builds that have crash reporting enabled also send crash reports to Firebase Crashlytics (Google). A report contains the error, the app's last steps, the app build, the phone model and Android version, and app state such as the ball model, whether Auto was on and the current screen. Reports contain no video, no shots, no account and no advertising ID. The same Share anonymous usage stats switch turns this off. The log on your phone is always kept.
6. When data leaves your phone because you send it
- Sharing a shot card, a clip, a Pre-flight report or the crash log opens Android's share sheet. The data goes only to the app or person you pick.
- Export (History › Export) creates a file with your shots and the local crash log, for you to save or send.
7. Connecting The Ballroom optional
LaneLens can link to The Ballroom, the BowlBrain companion app where you keep your bowling equipment. The link is optional, and LaneLens works fully without it.
- You create a single-use connect code in The Ballroom and enter it in LaneLens. LaneLens exchanges the code for an access token, which is stored on your device.
- With that token, LaneLens reads your locker over HTTPS: your ball arsenal, oil patterns, spare-leave stats and recent game scores. The link is read-only, so LaneLens does not send your shots or clips to The Ballroom.
- Disconnecting removes the imported data from your phone and leaves your Ballroom account untouched. The Ballroom is operated by the same developer and covered by its own privacy policy.
- "Try with sample data" loads a built-in demo locker. It makes no network request.
8. Beta testing
To request an invite you email us; we use your address only to send the invite and reply to you, and we delete it on request. Beta builds are distributed through Firebase App Distribution (Google). If you join the beta, Google processes the email address you use to accept the invite, plus basic install information, to deliver test builds. This happens under Google's terms and is separate from the app itself.
9. What we do not collect
- No name, email, phone number or address in the app.
- No location data.
- No advertising identifiers, no ads and no third-party advertising SDKs.
- No contacts and no audio.
10. Deleting your data
- Shots and clips: History › Clear deletes all saved shots and their replay videos.
- Everything: uninstall the app, or clear its storage in Android Settings › Apps › LaneLens.
- The Ballroom: disconnect from the Arsenal screen.
- There is no account, so we hold nothing on a server to request deletion of. Anonymous counts can't be linked back to you.
11. Children
LaneLens is a general-audience sports tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. When filming at a bowling centre, please be considerate of other bowlers, especially children, before sharing clips.
